Winter McDermott & Associates - Brooklyn, NY
Walking into a space should at once impress and invite. In the formal area, I use neutral grays and whites, spiked by dramatic touches of color, luxury, or glamour to set off an otherwise crisp and stripped down space. The contrast between the two elements creates an aesthetic that is at once young and refined. Thankfully, achieving this look does not need to be expensive: a few truly special collectibles can be interspersed among others that look luxurious, but are actually quite affordable.
Just as my formal spaces are inspiring, my informal areas are inviting. I need an area where I can curl up with a good book to relax. Here, I seek a classic look, while of course adding my own contemporary motif. My living space is ultra-comfy, without comprising my overall design goals of beauty and restraint.
I have been continually inspired by New York, the architectural aspects of design here, and the modern baroque aesthetic it has spawned. I also draw insight from designers like Vicente Wolf, Kelly Hoppen, Philippe Starck, and Piet Boon.
Thank you Mike & Maureen for sharing your great space!
